When I designed MJ'S dinner menu there was one simple requirement: it has to be editable in Microsoft Word. This was a challenge in many ways. Both on the practical end, with Word not being the most user friendly tool in terms of layout. But also on the design thinking-end as I recognised the urge to implement design attributes in the menu which simply wouldn't work in the given program. That let to a switch of focus mainly on how the menu was going to be used. The menu was not only for the guest who order the food, but for the staff who update the menu in Microsoft Word. A menu that had to be usable on both ends.

As MJ'S is a restaurant, hotel and bar with an attitude (playful copy always, animal prints everywhere and pink everything) I made simple decisions to still maintain brand. The menu has a clean text with boxes to highlight and titles on the side to get the most out of the page. A clean design, but to make that final touch MJ'S – it's printed on pink paper. The result is a menu that is easy to edit for the staff, with a brand that still comes through for the guest.
